Non Starchy Veggies

Starch is a type of carbohydrate in your diet produced by plants as an energy store. It is also known as complex carbohydrate and can be found in food like potatoes, pasta, cereal and bread as well as vegetables.

Vegetables contain fiber, mineral, vitamins and phytochemical. There are two types of vegetables which are starchy and non-starchy vegetables. For this article, I’m going to focus on the non-starchy vegetables because they contain less carbohydrates and therefore less calories.

If you are always hungry, snack low starch vegetables between the meals. If you would like to lose weight, fill your plate with more non-starchy vegetables and less complex carbohydrates. The more vegetables you eat the better

For good heath, favor fresh vegetables or vegetables juice over frozen or canned vegetables. If using canned or frozen vegetables chose the ones with no or less sodium, sugar and fat.
